Sunoco |
Sunoco, one of America's most successful oil refining and fuel retailing companies, has over 4,500 locations throughout the U.S. primarily in the Midwest and East Coast. Including distributing product (fuels) to these outlets, Sunoco is often responsible for site operation including facility maintenance. This means that Sunoco must handle the parking lot needs of over 4,500 extremely busy gas stations with often exceptionally limited parking areas. Sunoco needs a way to track repair costs and ensure regular maintenance of thousands of locations. Enter U.S. Sealcoat & U.S. Paving.
Savings with Sealcoat vs. Paving
By offering the parking lot maintenance campaign for several years, U.S. Sealcoat & U.S. Paving has been able to increase the pavement life span of Sunoco parking lots throughout the East Coast. By valuating and rating each location by its parking lot needs, we have been able to maintain many of the most needed sites and save the well-conditioned sites for future years. This has also allowed Sunoco to plan budgeting each year around the projected parking lot maintenance needs. As older lots that were not maintained age, overlaying or even repaving is necessary and performed in-house by U.S. Sealcoat & U.S. Paving. Yet, this cost is exponentially higher than maintaining on a regular basis because the regular maintenance increases the life of the pavement by several years, allowing Sunoco parking lots to last longer and save money.
High-Traffic & Small Areas
As with most gas stations, Sunoco is keen to optimize the amount of space while maximizing traffic to fuel pumps and convenience stores. Of course this is beneficial to the bottom line but often difficult for parking lot maintenance companies; but not for U.S. Sealcoat & U.S. Paving. By constantly
communicating with store managers and providing coordination tools that transcend any language barriers, including bulleted lists of our requirements and expected outcomes, we are able to coordinate how to approach these small parking lots in sections. By performing this work in sections, much of the inherent inconvenience of parking lot work is avoided and traffic is able to flow in and out of the store areas at all times. While on site we ensure that pavement markings are either re-striped or placed in the most efficient way for traffic and parking. Also, we ensure compliance with all ADA specification for that area. After completion of the work, store managers or co-op owners sign off that work was completed to their satisfaction and in a timely manner.
Safety & OSHA Regulationst
As we are working in very small parking lots with often extremely high traffic, safety is major concern for our crews and Sunoco's customers and partners. Therefore, we have developed a company safety plan based on Sunoco's high standards of safety but with our specific industry's needs and intrinsic issues in mind. This plan includes safety appareldesigned for our crews; larger, more visible blockades and signage for traffic and parking control; and frequent discussions about major safety issues with our crews to train and receive feedback.
Conclusion
Gas stations&146; high traffic volume translates into a variable that decreases pavement life span, which means a greater need
to maintain pavement on a regular basis. U.S. Sealcoat & U.S. Paving handles all scopes of parking lot work including
paving, overlaying, and asphalt maintenance &150; we see the cost of not maintaining pavement everyday and know the
advantages to consistently preserving parking lots through sealcoat
